Bondi Wholefoods

Though positioned at the quiet end of Hastings Parade, cafe/retail store Bondi Wholefoods is always buzzing with locals, often fresh from yoga or en route to the beach. Peruse the aisles for fresh organic veggies and specialty health food products before nabbing a seat in the colourful courtyard.

The menu follows a wholefoods ethos, serving organic produce and many paleo-friendly meals. Chances are you’ve stumbled across an Instagram pic of the acai bowl, a serious contender with smashed avo for Bondi’s signature dish. Wholefoods does a very photogenic rendition, topping the sweet bowl of blended berries with a generous coat of granola, decorated with slices of strawberries and banana.

For lunch, the array of salads is a good option for takeaway. Specials may include wild Canadian salmon with cauliflower tabouleh and miso-cashew cream.

The cafe couldn’t live up to its name without a solid selection of superfood drinks, provided in the form of The Alkaliser juice (beetroot, apple, carrot, mint, ginger and lime) and a Carob-Hazelnut-Maca smoothie.

Coffee is made using organic beans from micro lot plantations around the world, with rice, almond and coconut milk offered as dairy-free alternatives.

If you’re ever afforded the luxury of a weekday brunch, pay your visit then, because weekends can get hectic particularly during summer. If you can’t though, don’t be deterred. Service is appropriately chilled yet efficient, so you won’t wait forever for a table.
